2019 Summer Grazing Catalogue

The 69th sale of Summer Grazing is upon us. We still have Natural England, DEFRA and RPA. Now we have BREXIT. Need I say any more. However, BREXIT has not and will not stop the grass from growing so we still have grazing rights to dispose of. So nothing changes.
Despite all, one of the challenges still facing landowners, farmers and graziers is the Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) and people keeping getting into difficulties with this. Additionally, we have to think about the new Countryside Stewardship Scheme (CSS) and the fact that some older schemes are approaching their end and whatever happens with BREXIT these will exist. Lambert & Foster, of course, are uniquely placed to advise and to assist farmers and landowners with the applications and claims regardless of whether or not you have a computer!
Later in the catalogue we have set out some bullet points relating to The Agro-environment schemes currently in existence. As a grazier who occupies the land you will not be able to claim under the BPS on any land you occupy as a licensee. However, you are bound by ALL the Rules of Cross Compliance whether you like it or not. A grazier’s action can have a significant impact on a farmer’s or landowners annual BPS claim. The greatest cause of contention and penalties relate to animal movement, tagging, movement records and TB testing.
This sale of Summer Grazing Rights here in East Sussex is, we believe, the oldest known such sale. There are similar sales still held in the West Country and North of England but it is a tradition which is fast dying out. Regulation and red tape is usually cited as the reason for the demise of these sales. Nevertheless, it is our intention to keep tradition alive even if some authorities seem hell bent on doing otherwise.
We look forward to dealing with you for your summer grazing requirements and indeed any other matter in 2019.
