Burford Farm Sale Report

DISPERSAL OF ARABLE FARM MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT
AT BURFORD FARM, HUNTON, MAIDSTONE, KENT

Thursday 20th September 2018
on behalf of Gilbert Bros

Auctioneers Lambert & Foster, Paddock Wood.

Paul and Wendy Gilbert’s decision to move to Scotland has resulted in a busy time for Lambert and Foster who have been handling the sale of the family’s land, advising on the planning potential and making planning applications for the re-development of their farmyard and last week conducting the farm machinery dispersal sale. The sale brings to an end several generations of family farming in Hunton and they were given an excellent send off by a large company of buyers who attended the auction sale last week. As well as local farmers and machinery trade buyers others travelled from as far away as Cornwall and Yorkshire.

Prices achieved for the mainly arable and grassland farm equipment were excellent and many buyers commented on how well the machinery had been maintained and presented for sale and were prepared to bid accordingly.

Highest price on the day was for the 2012 Fendt 939 Vario tractor with only 4,900 hours on the clock which sold for £83,000.  The John Deere tractors proved popular with the 2011 John Deere 7930 4WD tractor with only 2,100 hours selling for £60,000, and the 2005 John Deere 6820 sold for £26,000. The 10 year old Claas Ares 69Z 4WD diesel tractor with the front loader made a very decent £31,000.

Amongst the arable equipment the 2017 Vaderstad A400S Rapid Seed Drill sold for £45,200 and the 2016 Sumo DTS3 Drill for £20,000. There was much interest in the McConnell Powerarm 770T hedgecutter selling locally for £15,000 and amongst the grassland equipment the Gyraz 5.4M Batwing trailed mower sold for £8,500.  A set of Vaderstad 9.5M hydraulic mounted rolls were knocked down for £10,000.  There was an excellent array of trailers on offer with the Marston Grain Trailers selling in the range of £5,800 to £6,200 and several low loaders sold to a top of £4,400.

Despite a difficult season it was good to see confidence amongst buyers and the worth of a genuine dispersal Auction was demonstrated again.  As well as equipment off the farm, local farmers were also invited to enter and amongst the included lots the 2002 John Deere 7810 Powerquad tractor sold for £31,500, a Renault-12 2WD fruit tractor sold for £4,300, a 2005 Case MXU 125 tractor sold for £14,000 and a 2015 Krone Swadro Single Rotor Hayrake sold for £3,200.

The sale date was originally agreed with the family in January 2018 and planning early and putting in good early preparation clearly reaped excellent rewards for the Gilberts and the Auctioneers.
