Farming in Protected Landscapes
The FIPL grant scheme has been running for a little while now, supporting projects that:
- support nature recovery,
- mitigate the impacts of climate change,
- provide opportunities for people to discover, enjoy and understand the landscape and cultural heritage,
- support nature-friendly, sustainable farm businesses.
We are aware that the Kent Downs National Landscape (formerly AONB) have now nearly met their allocation for the 2024–2025 financial year, however the High Weald National Landscape are actively seeking applicants. Grants are available up to £250,000. The following examples of successful projects have been provided:
- Infrastructure to introduce or allow more nature-friendly grassland management, for example electric fencing, water systems and NoFence technology
- Infrastructure that supports deer management, carcass processing and venison production, for example deer seats, deer chillers and larders
- Hedge and woodland management machinery and equipment that allows more timely, sensitive and flexible management, for example tree shears
- Hedge planting – popular with landowners who wish to reinstate lost hedgerows but aren’t ready to enter SFI or CS
- Training courses (for individuals and farmer groups) to help develop skills in nature-friendly farming.
