Lambert & Foster have significant experience in advising rural or agricultural businesses on the grants and subsidies which may be available
This includes applying and obtaining grants and subsidies for:
The Environmental Land Management Scheme (ELMS) replaced the Basic Payment Scheme as the UK Government’s farm support scheme. It comprises the Sustainable Farming Incentive, Countryside Stewardship Scheme and Landscape Recovery.
SFI pays farmers to adopt and maintain sustainable farming practices, as determined and set out by the UK Government. The intention is to pay farmers for public goods, encouraging best practice. Applications for a three year SFI agreement can be made at anytime, with Actions including wildflower strips, low input grassland and managing hedgerows.
CSS provides financial incentives for farmers, foresters and land managers to look after and improve the environment. It includes both land management options e.g. buffering infield ponds, organic conversion and wet land management, and capital grants e.g. stick fencing, wildlife boxes and tree surgery.
LR supports long-term, significant habitat restoration and land use change, as opposed to farm level changes supported through SFI and CSS. Projects are expected to last for at least 20 years and cover at least 500 hectares.
The Government have set ambitious woodland planting targets. Presently projects of 1 hectare or more may be eligible for funding through the England Woodland Creation Office (EWCO). A competitive scheme that will cover the cost of establishment and first 10 years of maintenance, as well as additional payment for delivering further public goods eg allowing public access. The sequestered carbon may be sold privately or through the Woodland Carbon Code.
Smaller tree planting projects may be funded through the Woodland Trust.
The area of Rural Grants is continually evolving. Typically, there will be grants available for projects that improve the environment, increase the productivity of farming and forestry, and grow the rural economy. Lambert & Foster have had great success in securing grants for our clients. If you have a project in mind, talk to our rural professional team as there may be local or national funding opportunities available.
Now the legacy scheme for farm support payments, replaced by ELMS. Our rural professional team can advise on any matter concerning the Basic Payment Scheme during the de-linked period.
